From Service to Leadership: A Commitment to Your Future
Darren Moore grew up in a working-class community where hard work, perseverance, and service were more than values—they were a way of life.
He carried those principles from small-town Ohio to leadership roles in infrastructure, national security, and economic development around the world. In every chapter of his life, Darren has stepped up in moments of challenge, delivering real results where they mattered most.
Today, he’s committed to bringing that same real-world leadership home—to rebuild opportunity, strengthen communities, and secure a better future for families across our region.
Rooted in Ohio, Built to Serve
Darren’s journey began in Wayne County, Ohio, where hard work and integrity weren’t just value. They were a way of life. He attended vocational school at the Wayne County Schools Career Center, gaining hands-on experience in the skilled trades. These early foundations instilled in him a lifelong commitment to workforce development and the creation of high-paying jobs in emerging industries.
He went on to earn both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Akron, where he became known for advocating smart infrastructure and evidence-based policy. His early leadership in student government and public affairs earned him recognition as Ohio’s Graduate Student of the Year. During this time, he also worked with the Ohio Department of Public Safety and published three technical papers focused on motorcycle and driver safety.
Military & Public Service: Defending American Interests
Three weeks after the 9/11 attacks, Darren left college after his first semester to enlist in the Ohio Air National Guard Reserve, where he served for six years and rose to the rank of Technical Sergeant. During his time in the Air Guard, he served as a Utilitiesman and supplemental Military Police, winning Airman of the Year and completing multiple deployments, including border patrol operations along the U.S.–Mexico border in Arizona.
Darren completed both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees before commissioning as an officer in the U.S. Navy, where he proudly led the first Seabee construction detachment assigned to Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) in the Horn of Africa. His service took him to forward-operating environments across Africa and the Middle East, helping stabilize regions through infrastructure and economic investment.
Following his overseas service, Darren oversaw sustainment operations for all U.S. Navy bases in the National Capital Region including hospitals, airports, research labs, and military housing. During the tragic mass shooting at the Washington Navy Yard, he played a key role in the tactical response, securing the installation and helping save lives. For his actions, he received a letter of commendation from the Secretary of the Navy.
Darren comes from a long, proud tradition of military service. He is the seventh generation of his family to serve in the U.S. military, tracing his lineage back to the founding of the United States. His public service career reflects a deep commitment to national security, first responder readiness, and protecting American lives. Values that continue to shape his policy priorities today.
